It’s already June, which means one thing and one thing only: time to look back over the last month with Speaking Scottish!
New Learning Materials
Following April’s Weather Starter Pack, this month we’ve been working on these brand new Start Packs:
- Food
- Animals
- Mythical Creatures (mini pack)
These will be making an appearance soon on our website and social media, so keep checking!
Coming soon, we also have a special article about Scottish “R” Sounds. Keep an eye out if you’ve ever wanted to find out more about this famous feature of Scottish accents!
New Blog Series: Living in Scotland
We’re really excited to have kicked off a new series interviewing people who come to Scotland as speakers of English as an additional language. First up, we caught up with Atanas, who came to Scotland from Bulgaria, and Tomo, who hails from Japan. Both of them have some great stories to share – definitely worth a peek if you have a moment for some light reading!

Speaking Scottish Open Meeting: Sat. 24th July
As we keep working on our learning materials, we are also busy figuring out future plans for Speaking Scottish. On top of making plans for how we want to better support learners, we are currently discussing ways of seeking funding to make the project more sustainable – and hopefully productive! – in the long term, e.g. by registering as a charity.
If you would be keen to contribute your thoughts on how you’d like to see Speaking Scottish grow – or just to get an idea of what’s going on behind the scenes – we’d love to see you at our first ever Open Meeting on Saturday 24th July. We will be in touch soon with more details re timings and what to expect. All are welcome, so feel free to bring a pal!
